How to Remove the Shopping Cart from a GoDaddy Website

Issued Aug 12, 2026Re-checked Aug 21, 2026

The store experiment is over, but the cart icon is still sitting in the corner of every page. To remove the shopping cart from a GoDaddy website in 2026, forget the toggle your old guide mentions — the current, documented route is deleting the Shop page itself, and the cart icon disappears once no store page exists. Here's the procedure, what happens to your product data, and how to stop paying for commerce you no longer use.

About that toggle: older tutorials point to an "Enable Shopping Cart" checkbox you could simply untick. That control belongs to a previous generation of GoDaddy's builder — the GoCentral-era interface — and at the time of checking, the current Websites + Marketing documentation shows no single disable-commerce switch. What it documents instead are the two standard operations this procedure is built on: deleting a page and deleting a section. If a guide shows you a checkbox, check its date.

Why the icon behaves this way: the cart is tied to the presence of a store on the site, not to a setting of its own. As long as a store page or store section exists anywhere, the header shows the cart; remove the last of them and the icon goes with it. That's the mechanism the whole procedure leans on.

Prerequisites

  • Editor access to the site.
  • A decision about your product data: the procedure below removes the storefront, and clearing out the catalog is a separate job if you want that gone too.
  • A list of any connected marketplaces — Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Google, Facebook, Walmart — since those links get severed in their own step.
  • Awareness of Site History (Settings → Site History), your safety net if the deletion turns out to be premature.

Procedure: delete the Shop page

  1. Sign in to your GoDaddy account and open My Products.
  2. Expand Websites + Marketing, select Manage next to the site, then Edit Website.
  3. Open the page list in the editor's navigation.
  4. Select the Shop page.
  5. Delete it — this is the operation GoDaddy documents as "Delete a page" (Help article 24073).
  6. Sweep the remaining pages for standalone store sections — featured-product strips, category grids — and delete each one (the documented "Delete a section" operation, article 20120).
  7. Publish. Page and section deletions don't reach visitors until you republish.
  8. Load the live site and confirm: with no store page or store section left, the cart icon is gone from the header.

CAUTION: deleting the Shop page destroys that page's layout and any custom content you built on it. The editor does take an automatic backup when a section is deleted, and Settings → Site History can restore one — but a restore rolls back everything you've done since that backup, not just the shop. Be sure before you delete; "mostly sure" is how rebuilds happen.

What happens to your product data

The storefront page and the product catalog are different animals. Products are managed from the site's dashboard, not stored on the page — the same separation that shows up in Site History behavior, where restores roll back pages but never delete products. Deleting the Shop page removes the display; at the time of checking, the catalog data behind it stays put in the dashboard.

That cuts both ways. It means removing the cart is low-risk for your data — but it also means that if you want the products themselves gone, that's separate housekeeping in the store area of the dashboard, product by product or however its screens allow.

Cleaning up the traces

The cart icon goes automatically, but a store leaves fingerprints all over a site. Work through this list before calling the job done:

  • Navigation: the menu entry disappears with the deleted page, but check your header and footer menus anyway for manual links you added yourself.
  • Buttons and text links: any "Shop now" button or in-paragraph link on other pages now points at a dead address. Rewrite or remove them.
  • Marketplace connections: GoDaddy documents a Disconnect from Marketplaces flow (article 42876) — you type "DISCONNECT" to confirm unlinking Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Google, Facebook, and Walmart. Run it if the site was feeding listings anywhere.
  • Old promises: shipping policies, returns pages, order FAQs — content that reads strangely on a site that no longer sells anything. Retire or rewrite it.

Downgrading from the Commerce plan

If the store was the only reason you were on Commerce, the plan is now costing you money for nothing: $20.99 a month on the year-one promo and $34.99 a month at renewal, on annual billing. Moving down to Premium ($14.99 promo, $29.99 renewal) or Basic ($9.99 promo, $16.99 renewal) removes checkout capability — commerce is a plan feature, so it travels with the plan, not with the deleted page.

One honesty note: at the time of checking, GoDaddy's documentation didn't spell out the downgrade path step by step. Expect to change plans through your account's plan management, with the change most likely landing at the next term — and confirm the details on your own billing screen rather than assuming a date. Where each plan actually earns its price is laid out in our GoDaddy Website Builder review.

Variations and edge cases

  • Bringing the store back later: add a shop page again and reconnect what you need — at the time of checking, your catalog remains in the dashboard, so a revival is more re-plumbing than rebuilding.
  • Airo-built sites: if the AI generated your site with a shop baked in, the removal procedure is identical — the Shop page is just another page in the list.
  • Planning to sell only through marketplaces: whether marketplace listings carry on without a store page on the site wasn't clearly documented at the time of checking — if that's your plan, verify in the dashboard before deleting anything.

That's the whole job: page deleted, traces swept, plan right-sized. The manual's other procedures — unpublishing, deleting a site outright, forms, custom code — are indexed under GoDaddy tutorials.

Troubleshooting

My old guide shows an "Enable Shopping Cart" checkbox. Where did it go?
That checkbox belongs to the legacy GoCentral-era builder, not the current Websites + Marketing editor. At the time of checking, the documented way to remove the cart is deleting the Shop page and any store sections — the cart icon goes when no store page exists.
Will deleting the Shop page erase my products?
No — the catalog is managed from the dashboard, separately from pages. Deleting the page removes the storefront display while the product data stays put. If you want the products gone too, remove them in the store area of the dashboard afterward.
I deleted the page but the cart icon is still showing.
Three suspects, in order: you haven't republished yet, a store section survives somewhere on another page, or your browser is showing a cached copy. Publish, sweep every page for product sections, then hard-refresh or check in a private window.
Do I keep paying the Commerce price after removing the store?
Yes. Billing follows your plan, not your pages — the subscription continues at the Commerce rate until you actively downgrade or cancel. If the store was the only reason for the plan, make the downgrade its own follow-up task.
